Meet Sangita

Sangita works in our packing department, and just recently, she’s been overseeing the process of Shibori dyeing for our next line of Ziyada products. Sangita is a loving sister to her 5 siblings, and you can often find her being a kind-hearted big sister to her Ziyada co-workers. Sangita’s got a great eye for quality, a calm nature, and is our office’s favorite news anchor. As an expert in local politics, she keeps us all up-to-date on changes in local laws and policies, and the latest political drama! Below, you’ll find a complete translation of our recent interview with Sangita, and you can see her in action at the office with this video! We are so happy to have her on our team, and hope you enjoy getting to know her!

Tell us about yourself and your family.

My name is Sangita. (Laughs) In my family, there’s 3 sisters, 3 brothers, and my mother. I had a wonderful childhood. We played a lot, and I was the oldest sibling. When I got a little older, I was admitted into a school and was able to study.

How’d you learn about Ziyada?

My neighbor told me about Ziyada. Laughing, she asked, “Will you learn sewing?” I said, “Sure, I’ll learn. Then, I asked her how much it would cost, but she said, “No, they are teaching for free. Will you go?” Then I said, “Okay, I’m going!” She told me the address where they were taking applications, so I went searching for the building. I saw people coming and going from the office, so I knew I was at the right place. I had come with my cousin and sister. We saw that it was true that they were taking applications, so we gave ours.

How did you feel during training?

When training started, I really enjoyed it! I had never left the house for anything. After finishing school, I was always at home. So, I came here for the first time and there were so many ladies, and I just loved training time!

What kind of work do you do in the office?

I do cutting, trimming, packing, ironing—this type of work. I like all of the work I get. If it is cutting work from Shobha (Shobha is the head of our fabric cutting department), or any other work, I feel good about it.

How has your life changed because of your work?

What has changed? I have happiness, we are living well. A lot has changed. I’m happy, and I work with joy. I don’t have any stress, and that is what has changed.

How does your family feel about your work?

No one dislikes it. Everyone in my family is happy because of my work.

What do you do for fun in your free time?

If I’m at home, I love to sit and watch soap operas.

What is one thing that makes you feel proud of yourself?

I feel proud that I’m honest. Whatever it is, I tell the facts, and I speak the truth from my heart.
